Children and Dental Emergencies
Kids are prone to injuries, all parents know this. But sometimes, an injury can happen that impacts their smiles. A tooth can become chipped or cracked, or even knocked loose or out completely. When this happens, even if the injury appears very minor, they should still see us right away! Even minor injuries could expose the interior of your teeth to harmful oral bacteria and increase the risk of a visit or even a dental infection, which could mean discomfort and even the chance for premature tooth loss, a major factor in the onset of misalignment. Help From Our Team
When your child comes to you with a dental injury, don’t panic! Have them rinse with warm water and then use cloth or some gauze to stem the bleeding. You can also offer them a cold compress or ice pack to place against the side of the face to reduce swelling. An over-the-counter and age-appropriate pain reliever can also be provided. If you can recover pieces of a broken tooth, try to do so and ring them with you to the office. If a tooth is knocked out completely, then pick it up only by the crown, on the roots, and place it in a sealed container of milk or salt water, and bring it with you to the office.
