When You Need Emergency Treatment

prairie village dental emergencyWhen should you contact our team for dental emergency treatment? If a tooth is chipped or cracked, or begins to hurt, then you need to see our team! In today’s blog, Dr. Robert M. Browne talks about when you need to see us for dental emergency treatment, and how we can help restore your smile and protect you from major oral health complications.

The Signs of Dental Emergencies

What is a dental emergency? This could be a chipper, broken, or cracked tooth. Even if the injury appears minor, you still need care because this could leave the tooth at risk for a cavity or infection. If you have a tooth that suddenly begins to hurt and the pain doesn’t pass after a few hours, then let us know. If a filling, crown, or prosthetic is damaged or lost, or if an orthodontic is damaged, then let us know right away. We could also tackle a partially or fully avulsed (knocked-out) tooth. If it requires immediate attention but not a 911 call, then contact our team right away.

Seeing Our Team for Treatment

When the injury happens, call our team right away. If you contact us during our normal operating hours, we will try to see you same-day or early the next day if possible. If we are closed, leave a message before you hang up. A team member will reach out to you to discuss possible treatment times, and ways to help ease discomfort.

In the meantime, control any facial swelling with a cold compress to the side of your face, and stem bleeding with cloth or gauze. If you can recover any pieces of your tooth, do so and bring them with you. If the tooth is knocked-out completely, pick it up only by the crowns, don’t touch the roots, and place the tooth in a sealed container of milk or salt water. Bring it with you! An over-the-counter pain reliever can also be taken to ease your discomfort.

Restoring Your Teeth

With dental bonding, we could repair minor injuries in only one visit with lifelike results. For more severe injuries, our team could place a custom and lifelike dental crown. If you have any questions about how we approach dental emergency care, or about the options we provide to repair your smile with natural-looking results, then contact our team today.
