Don’t Ignore A Dental Emergency!

prairie village emergency dentistryWhen faced with a dental emergency, such as a broken or aching tooth, we want to see you right away! Even minor damage could lead to serious complications, so don’t ignore them! Instead, talk to your Prairie Village, KS, dentist about taking on your dental emergency.

Examples of a Dental Emergency

What constitutes a dental emergency? If you chip a tooth or break one, that is a situation that needs immediate attention from our team. If you sustain an injury and no damage is visible, we still suggest an appointment since fractures are dangerous for your oral health and practically invisible to the naked eye. You should let us know if a tooth hurts or if you have something caught between your teeth or under the gums and floss cannot remove it. Obviously, a tooth that is knocked loose or out completely requires the immediate attention of your emergency dentist!

How to Ease That Initial Discomfort

You should call us right away. If you reach our team during our regular business hours, then you have a greater likelihood to receive a same-day appointment. If you reach us outside of these hours, then leave a message and a team member will contact you soon to discuss possible appointment times.

In the meantime, rinse with warm water and floss on either side of the tooth to try and relieve pain or dislodge trapped objects. If a tooth is damaged, try to recover any pieces and bring them with you. If a tooth is knocked out, pick it up only by the crown, not the root, and put it in a sealed container of milk or salt water, and bring it with you. The tooth could also be placed into the open socket, and you could bite down gently to keep it in place.

To ease swelling and discomfort, place a cold compress against the side of the face and take an over-the-counter pain reliever. You can stem any bleeding with a bit of cloth or gauze.

Help from Our Team

Our team will conduct a detailed examination of your smile to assess the cause and severity of your damage, so we suggest the right treatment option. For minor injuries, we could provide relief in one visit with dental bonding, and we can take on more substantial damage with a custom and lifelike crown. Our team can address fractures with root canal too, so you avoid the risk of tooth pain or tooth loss.
